There are many different types of discomfort that can affect your mouth! While we much prefer to hear that you are not dealing with a single one of them, it’s always to your benefit to have some knowledge regarding possible details and what they might mean. When you notice that sharp pain is affecting you, it’s time to respond immediately in a few particular ways. We’re happy to explain!
#1: Stop Chewing On It
If you notice sharp pain in your teeth or within your gum tissue, stop using that part of your smile to chew. Switch to the other side or other teeth/tissue, so that you’re not applying pressure. If you’re experiencing a lot of discomfort throughout your smile, seek out gentle foods that require very little effort to eat (applesauce, soup, scrambled eggs, etc.) for the immediate future.
#2: Set Up A Visit Right Now
Call us. Immediately. Remember that we offer regular visits, as well as emergency dentistry. When sharp pain arises, it’s often a sign letting us know that a serious issue has developed and may require our immediate response with treatment.
#3: Don’t Touch It
Yes, you may find yourself with an overwhelming desire to figure things out. You may think that if you press on the area and it doesn’t hurt too bad this time, you might not need to worry. Don’t give into this line of thinking! Instead, just leave the area alone (so you don’t make things worse) and see us very soon!
