When a Tooth Needs Extraction
When do you need to see our team for a tooth extraction? If you have a tooth too decayed or infected to be treated with a root canal and crown, then we may need to remove it so infection does not reach other teeth. The same goes for a tooth too injured to be repaired with a crown. If a tooth stands in the way of orthodontic treatment, we could extract it. If you have lost most of your teeth, we could remove the rest to pave the way for a complete set of dentures.
If you have wisdom teeth soon to erupt, we could extract them before they do, so you avoid painful impaction, misalignment, infection, and other serious complications.
Planning and Ensuring Comfort
Our team will take digital x-rays of your tooth so we can look at surrounding areas and ensure removal without coming into contact with nerve tissues, blood vessels, or sinus cavities. Our team will also discuss ways to help ensure you stay comfortable. In addition to a local anesthetic, we can also offer sedation for your smile! With options like nitrous oxide, oral conscious sedation, and even IV sedation, we can help you enjoy a comfortable experience with little to no memory of the process at all. This is especially helpful for people with high anxiety regarding dental visits, or for those with special needs that could complicate the ability to undergo care.
Removing Your Tooth
When we have planned the procedure in detail and you are properly numbed and sedated, we will remove the tooth. With a pair of forceps, we can loosen and extract the tooth. If you are having wisdom teeth removed, we may need to open the gums above them to access and remove these teeth. We then suture the area closed and provide detailed aftercare instructions and prescriptions for medications to help facilitate a fast and effective healing period. You will likely be able to return to your normal routine after a day or two of rest.
