Our custom dental restorations, including fillings and crowns, allow us to repair teeth and prevent them from being lost. But sometimes, an issue develops that could spread and cause problems for the smile as a whole. When this happens, Dr. Robert M. Browne may offer our Prairie Village, KS, patients a gentle tooth extraction!
When a Tooth Needs to Come Out
What calls for a tooth extraction? If a tooth is too damaged to be repaired with a crown, leaving it in place could lead to spreading infection and the risk of severe complications. Likewise, for cases of tooth decay or infection too severe to be treated with a crown or root canal. We could take out teeth to help with orthodontic treatment too, or to boost bite balance in some cases. Tooth extraction can help prevent wisdom tooth impaction, so we can prevent the pain and contains of an eruption wisdom tooth by taking them out before they even arrive!
Planning and Sedation
We will plan the process in detail before we begin, taking detailed images of your smile with digital x-rays. With these images, we can peer under the gums and assess the position of the tooth needing extraction, so we sure we never come into contact with nerve tissues, sinus cavities, or blood vessels. When the time comes for the removable, we will offer local anesthesia and sedation to help you enter a deep state of calm and relaxation, often with little to no memory of the procedure at all.
Extracting Your Tooth and Recovery
Our team will use forceps to gently loosen and remove the tooth in question, a process that usually takes as little as a half-hour in some cases. We then suture the area closed, and may provide medication to the area directly. You will then return home with detailed aftercare instructions to ensure a clot forms and the healing process continues without complication, so you can return to your normal routine in as little as a day or two. We also provide prescriptions for meditations that could aid the process and keep you comfortable while you recover. If we remove a tooth due to injury or disease, then we could discuss replacement options with dental bridges or even lifelike dental implants.
If you have any questions about how we boost the health and function of your smile with a tooth extraction, then contact our team to learn more! We want to help smiles of all ages in our community stay strong and beautiful!
