What Is OraVerse?

lipsThere is a popular song with the lyrics: I can’t feel my face when I’m with you, but I love it, but I love it. However, most people don’t love it when they can’t feel their face, and, there are times after certain dental treatments that you can’t feel your face. This is because your dentist administered a local anesthetic to ensure that you experienced little discomfort, if any, during treatment. But after treatment discomfort comes in the way of a numb cheek and lips. When your lips are numb, it’s hard to speak, eat, and drink. That’s why we offer OraVerse.

OraVerse

When a dentist gives you a localized anesthetic, it can often last up to four hours after treatment. This can be quite an inconvenience, especially if you have to go back to work. Not only is it uncomfortable to not be able to move your lips, but it makes it impossible to eat, difficult to drink, can cause slurred speech and drooling. Some patients may experience swelling as an added bonus! OraVerse is designed to shorten the duration of this discomfort.

How It Works

OraVerse reverses the effects of local anesthesia, allowing you to begin to feel your lips again faster. It shortens the two-to-four-hour duration of numbness, to one to two hours. Administered in the form of an injection, phentolamine mesylate (OraVerse) dilates your blood vessels which increases blood flow to the area, allowing you to gradually feel and control your lips once again. In more scientific terms, it reverses the local vasoconstrictor properties of the anesthetic.
