Ensuring Comfort With Sedation and OraVerse®

prairie village sedation

How do you feel about seeing the dentist? If you have a fear of this, even for a routine dental cleaning, then we can help. With options like OraVerse® and dental sedation, Dr. Robert M. Browne talks about protecting smiles and ensuring a comfortable visit for our patients in Prairie Village, KS.

Local Anesthesia and OraVerse®

One way we help ensure treatment is comfortable is with local anesthesia, which we use to numb the area where treatment is occurring. For example, this could ensure everything from filling and crown placement to periodontal cleaning are comfortable experiences. Our team will administer this before the procedure, and this helps you stay comfortable throughout the process. Now, in most cases this could mean waiting hours once the procedure ends for the lingering numbness to stop, and sealing with poor speech and drooling in the meantime.

But with OraVerse®, we can administer local anesthetic and then offer a treatment to help limit the numbness and restore feeling much faster, often in as little as an hour or two. This will be administered while you are still numb, and the effects help restore feeling to your lips in a much faster timeframe!

Dental Sedation

Another major way to ensure the comfort of our patients is with dental sedation. With sedation dentistry, we can choose from three different selections to help ensure you stay comfortable, even if you have dental anxiety and other complications that impact your ability to undergo care. This is perfect if you are receiving more extensive treatments, such as dental implant placement or tooth extraction. Our team will look at your age, weight, medical history, medications being taken, and anxiety levels to choose which is right for you.

The most common and mild selection is nitrous oxide, given through a mask over the nose. The effects can be adjusted during treatment and end once the procedure does. We also have deeper calming with oral conscious sedation, given in a pill or liquid form prior to the procedure which offers a deeper state of calm, with no memory of the process. The deepest form is a sleep-like state offered with IV sedation!

If you have any questions about how we keep you calm and comfortably throughout the treatment process, or if you want to schedule a visit for you and your family before school starts, then contact our team today to learn more.
