Supporting New Teeth With A Bridge

Missing teeth could lead to major oral health issues, even if you only have a single lost tooth. Which is why we want to offer replacement with a dental prosthetic. For minor tooth loss, your Prairie Village, KS, dentist can support new teeth with a custom and lifelike dental bridge.

Why Missing Teeth Need Replacement

If you have only lost one tooth, you may assume there is no big hurry to seek replacement. But the fact is, even a single missing tooth could mean trouble for your smile. The gap could allow nearby teeth to drift from position, creating dental misalignment that further impacts the health and appearance of your smile. The changes to your bite balance could allow painful complications like TMJ disorder and bruxism (teeth grinding). You could also feel embarrassed about your appearance, which impacts your social interactions and quality of life. With a dental bridge, we can remove a single lost tooth or as many as three to four in a row.

The Dental Bridge

To start the tooth replacement process, our team will numb the abutment teeth, the natural ones that sit on each side of the gap in your smile. We then remove structure from them, and take detailed digital images and measurements of the prepared teeth and the gap. This creates a 3D impression that allows us to design and craft your dental bridge. Made from ceramic, the prosthetic will contain new teeth with crowns on one or both ends. The material can absorb daily bite forces and pressures, and also be shaded to blend with your smile and look natural!

Creating and Attaching Your Prosthetic

Once we create your custom dental prosthetic, you will return to the office. We will check the fit and see if you need any adjustments made. If so, we will make these and then connect the crowns to your abutment teeth with a powerful bonding agent. Your new teeth are then firmly secured in place, and you have a prosthetic that is fixed in place and never slips. This can last about 10 to 15 years on average, and we will discuss how to properly care for your new teeth!
