Sometimes routines get a bad rap. Perhaps they sound boring, or repetitive. Just the same old thing. In fact, routines help form healthy habits, and save mental energy for the really important things…like travel plans, and decisions about summer vacation! Scheduling routine dental visits is a perfect example of a healthy routine that should be a part of everyone’s preventive dental care plan. By establishing twice-a-year checkups and cleanings with your dentist, you help protect your smile for years to come.
We Check Your Gums
You are probably brushing carefully twice and day, and flossing daily at home. By cleaning food particles off tooth surfaces, you remove sources that oral bacteria can convert to harmful acids. Even careful brushers and flossers can miss inflammation at the gum line. In the early stages, this infection is called gingivitis, and can often be corrected with changes in your brushing and flossing techniques. More severe gum disease may need a dental deep cleaning (called scaling and root planing) in our office. Left untreated, gum disease can progress into periodontitis, a serious condition that can result in tooth loosening or tooth loss if left untreated.
We Screen for Oral Cancer
Your mouth has unique contours, and we have our eyes (and our dental technology) on the lookout for anything new. A new lump, a sore, or a site that won’t heal can be a signal that something needs attention. Oral cancer is serious business, and early detection is an important factor in successful treatment.
Bring on Your Dental Questions
While you can call our office with questions at any time, many people find it easier to ask a question face to face. As our caring dental staff is cleaning, checking and polishing your teeth, we may mention innovations in teeth-whitening, that could brighten your smile. We can discuss options for filling a cavity. And we hope you will bring up any smile concerns that are on your mind, from that quirky crooked tooth, to any tooth discomfort that has you concerned.
