Anxiety and Patient Comfort
If you have anxiety about seeing the dentist, we understand, and we want to take steps to provide comfort for our patients. Your time with us should be positive, and leaving you looking forward to your next visit, so we can help you and your family enjoy optimal oral health. We can talk to you about the source of your anxiety, and what we can do to make your visit more comfortable. We also offer ways to keep you calm and comfortable, using OraVerse® and dental sedation.
Choosing Sedation
A local anesthetic can numb an area directly, but we also have sedation that can help even anxious patients or those with special need enter a deep state of calm and relaxation. We will choose from three different options, selecting one that is based on your age, weight, medical history, any medications currently being taken, and more.
The most common and mild form is nitrous oxide, given in a gas form. The effects wear off when the office does, so you can drive yourself home if you need. We also have oral conscious, which is given in a pill, or liquid form, and offers a deeper state of calm, so you may be a bit groggy afterward. The deepest form is actually IV, which puts you in a sleep-like state and again, may leave you a bit groggy afterward. With these options, you will likely have no memory of the procedure at all.
OraVerse®
When you receive a local anesthetic, this numbs the area and this feeling could potentially last for two or more hours following the procedure. But! With OraVerse®, we will inject a special medication while you are numbed that returns normal feeling much faster, so you avoid long periods of numbness, slurred speech, and drooling, and return to your usual routine much faster.
