Teeth Whitening Removes Unsightly Teeth Stains

prairie village teeth whitening

Teeth stains can be a source of embarrassment for our patients and their families in Prairie Village, KS. Which is why we offer professional teeth whitening to help remove discoloration and leave smiles many shades brighter! In today’s blog, Dr. Robert M. Browne talks about how we remove teeth stains with professional whitening.

The Causes of Teeth Stains

What happens to cause stains to appear on the surfaces of our smiles? For some, discoloration could occur when we consume foods and snacks high on sugar and starch, as this promotes plaque buildup. Plaque could also occur due to poor brushing and flossing habits and lack of cleanings. These layers make discoloration more visible. Other causes include drinks with dark pigments, including coffee, tea, soda, and red wine. Tobacco use could be a factor too! Our team will examine your smile to assess the severity of your teeth stains, so we can choose the most appropriate solution.

Our Teeth Whitening Treatments

We can choose from two different teeth whitening options. For fast results, we have an in-office treatment that uses a special bleaching gel and light to brighten teeth in as little a s an hour. Perfect is you need to see your smile shine in a short time frame, such as before a job interview or first date.

If you have more severe discoloration, we may instead suggest our take-home kit. With our at-home kit, you will receive a set of custom plastic trays and a series of plastic syringes containing a powerful bleaching gel. From home, you add gel to the trays and wear them for about an hour a day in most cases, you repeat the process for a week to ten days, and could see teeth up to eight shades brighter!

Masking Severe Stains

Most discolorations form on the surfaces of our teeth, but sometimes severe discoloration can form between the outer enamel, and these can be more difficult to remove with traditional whitening options. Fortunately, we can use bonding or even veneers to mask them, covering them up and offering an instantly brighter smile. At the same time, these options can reshape malformed teeth, lengthen worn doom structures, and even fill gaps between teeth or repair minor injuries!
