What if we had an alternative to porcelain veneers that takes one visit to complete, but still offers the major cosmetic improvements? With Lumineers, we can make major changes to the appearance of your smile. In today’s blog, Dr. Robert M. Browne talks about boosting smiles with thin and lifelike Lumineers.
The Cosmetic Potential of Our Restorations
With Lumineers, we have a very thin shell of porcelain that we attach to the front of your teeth. Once affixed, this instantly changes the shape and color of the tooth in questions. We could use this to take on esthetic concern with one tooth, or place several to help makeover your smile. We could even combine this with teeth whitening and bonding/contouring for a full smile makeover.
When attached, we can cover up severe teeth stains, address misshapen teeth, fix gaps between the teeth, and add length to worn down teeth. This could address minor chips too!
Creating and Placing Thin Restorations
With traditional porcelain veneers, our team will need to remove outer layers of enamel to make room for the veneers to ensure they fit comfortably and look natural. But Lumineers are so thin that we can instead attach them without removing any enamel, keeping your teeth fully intact should we need to remove or replace them down the road. You also avoid the need for a temporary in between visits. Instead, we will take images and impressions of your teeth and use them to design and craft your custom cosmetic restorations. We then attach these Lumineers in the same visit in many cases!
Keeping Your Veneers Bright
To help ensure they remain bright and beautiful, and that they stay affixed to your teeth, you need to practice good oral hygiene habits. For example, make time to brush your teeth for two minutes when you wake up and then do so again. Using a soft-bristled toothbrush and a fluoride toothpaste only helps! You also need to floss every evening before you go to bed to remove what a toothbrush alone cannot. We also urge patients to avoid tobacco products and limit the sugar in their diets, and to see our team for a routine checkup and cleaning every six months. These actions protect your natural teeth, your new restorations, and even your gums!
