We want all of our patients to feel comfortable and relaxed when they visit our office. Even if they have dental anxiety or special needs, we want to provide care and to do so with comfort. In today’s blog, your Prairie Village, KS, dentist talks about ensuring patient comfort with sedation dentistry and OraVerse®.
Keeping You Comfortable
If you have a fear of the dentist, whether due to past experiences or a lack of experience with the dentists. We understand and won’t minimize your anxiety. Instead, we want to offer care that helps you stay comfortable and calm throughout the process. We also use this to aid in treatment for patients with special needs that complicates treatment. Sedation can also help calm our patients who are undergoing more extensive treatments, including extracting wisdom teeth or placing dental implants to address missing teeth!
Dental Sedation
Our team offers three different forms of dental sedation. The most common and mild form is often recommended for kids and adults alike. Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, is given through a mask over the nose. The patient breathes in a gas and enters a deep state of calm, staying conscious but with little memory of the process. The effects can be adjusted during treatment and end once the procedure does. So many can drive themselves home or even return to work or school.
For a deeper calm, we could offer oral conscious sedation, which is given in a pill or liquid form prior to the procedure. You enter a much deeper state of calm, with no memory of the procedure, while still being conscious and able to respond to the dentist as needed. The effects take time to wear off, and you may need someone on hand to take you home afterward.
OraVerse®
When you receive a local anesthetic to numb the area being treated, this can keep you comfortable. But the numbing effect can last for hours and impact the rest of your day! You could experience numbness and drooling, and feel self-conscious. But we can help return sensation to your lips much faster with OraVerse®. When we complete your procedure and your smile is still numb, we will inject the OraVerse® medication to help the numbing sensation pass much faster, so you can avoid slurred speech and drooling and regain feeling in as little as one to two hours. If you have any questions, contact our team today!
