We previously discussed how we take on a single missing tooth or larger gap with a dental bridge. But what if you have several gaps, and what if they are spread out across your smile? In these situations, your Prairie Village, KS, dentist could help with a set of custom partial dentures!
Losing Multiple Natural Teeth
How do you lose your natural teeth? Multiple gaps could form in your smile due to issues like untreated tooth decay or infection, or even due to an injury to the smile or a combination of these factors. The most common cause of tooth loss is actually periodontitis, the advanced stage of gum disease. When you have several gaps in your bite, this could be too severe for a bridge, but you may have enough natural teeth in place that a full is not needed. We can help with a partial! This helps prevent complications like misalignment, TMJ disorder, and bruxism (teeth grinding) from occurring, and restores your ability to eat your favorite foods and speak clearly!
Securing Your Partial Dentures
Our team will carefully examine your smile and then take detailed digital images and impressions of your bite. Once we do, our team will use these in a dental lab setting to design and craft your custom dentures. The prosthetic will contain an acrylic base that looks like gum tissues, and lifelike ceramic teeth that can handle daily bite forces. When the prosthetic is in place, the new teeth fit snugly in the gaps, so you have a full smile. Metal clasps will attach to natural teeth to keep your partial denture in place when in use. You will need to soak and clean them regularly, and with proper care and attention they could last as long as ten years in some cases!
What If You Need Full Dentures?
If you are missing most of your natural teeth, then we could help with a set of full dentures. These will contain a complete row of new teeth set in an acrylic base, we held in place with suction or adhesives. We will extract the last few teeth and then provide a full set to restore function and beauty to your smile again.
If you have any questions about our full and partial dentures, or if you would like to schedule a visit today, then reach out to our team today to get started. You deserve a full smile, and we can help!
