Our team wants to help you enjoy a brighter smile, whether that means removing teeth stains or masking them with our cosmetic treatments. We can help brighten teeth and target discoloration, even in severe cases. In today’s blog, your Prairie Village, KS, dentist talks about professional teeth whitening.
Professional At-Home Teeth Whitening
There are two different types of teeth stains. The most common form on the surface of your teeth and are referred to as extrinsic stains. These are easily removed with our teeth whitening treatment. But intrinsic discoloration, which forms beneath the outer enamel, are more difficult to remove and we may need to mask these with bonding or veneers.
If you have extrinsic teeth stains, we could prescribe our at-home teeth whitening systems. With this option, you just visit our office long enough for our team to create a set of plastic trays custom-made for your smile. You take these home with you. We also provide multiple plastic syringes that contain a powerful bleaching gel. At home, you add the gel to the trays and wear them for a specific amount of time, usually about an hour a day, over the course of one to two weeks.
For some, teeth could be up to eight shades brighter! You then keep the trays and remaining gel should you need touch-ups.
Dental Bonding
If you have intrinsic discoloration, we could mask them in one visit with dental bonding. The procedure involves applying lifelike and metal-free composite resin to the teeth. This is the same material we use for our lifelike dental fillings. We will shade this to blend with your teeth and apply it in several layers, sculpting and molding the tooth as we cure the composite resin beneath a special light. Finally, we polish the tooth for a brighter appearance. This can also help address minor damage or even reshape teeth or fill gaps between them!
Porcelain Veneers
With porcelain veneers, we can mask teeth stains by placing a thin and custom-made restoration onto the front of the teeth. Veneers instantly mask stains, but they also reshape malformed teeth, repair minor damage, fill in gaps, and even correct the appearance of minor misalignment. For some, these provide a smile makeover in only two visits! If you have any questions about how we transform the appearance of your smile and whether we remove or mask teeth stains, then contact our team today to learn more and get started. We want to help your smile shine!
