Our previous blog discussed how we take on minor tooth loss with a durable and natural-looking dental bridge. But! What if you have a more complex case, one in which you have multiple missing teeth across your smile? In today’s blog, your Prairie Village, KS, dentist talks about taking on multiple lost teeth with a set of partial dentures!
The Impact of Complicated Tooth Loss
If you lose multiple natural teeth across your smile, this could be too complex to be handled with a dental bridge, but you still have enough natural teeth in place that a full denture isn’t needed. Instead, for a complex case like this you need a set of partial dentures. Otherwise, your missing teeth could lead to misalignment and a greater risk of tooth decay and gum disease. The imbalance in your bite could boost the risk of painful complications like TMJ disorder and bruxism (teeth grinding). You could also encounter complications with your meals or even with clear speech! But with a set of dentures, we can restore your ability to eat your favorite foods, feel confident when you smile, and speak clearly.
Our Partial Dentures
The partial will contain new teeth set in an acrylic base. The ceramic teeth will be shaded to blend with your smile and match them. The base itself will look like gum tissues. When in place, the new teeth will fit in the gaps snugly, so you have a full smile and a secure set of replacement teeth.
Creating and Securing Your New Smile
How do we create and secure your new dentures? To begin, we will take detailed images of your bite from multiple angles, and use these to design and craft your new dentures. With the removable option, metal clasps will attach to the new teeth and secure your partial firmly in place. These will need to be taken out for cleaning and soaking, and tend to last about 5 to 10 years before replacement is needed as the jaw changes shape. However! We could also discuss supporting them with dental implants, inserting these into the jaw where they keep your smile intact. Which means when we attach the prosthetic, your partial could stay in place for decades to come.
