Supporting Your Custom Full Dentures

Our last blog talked about partial dentures, but when you have lost most or all of your teeth, you need more than a bridge or partial. Instead, you will need a complete set of dentures, which we can provide! In today’s blog, your Prairie Village, KS, dentist talks about how we create and support a set of full dentures.

The Potential Risks of Losing Your Teeth

When you lose most or all of your teeth, this could force you to subsist mainly on sift foods. You not only lose access to your favorite dishes, but this could deny you important nutrients too. In addition, you could find yourself struggling with clear speech, which further impacts your quality of life and ability to socialize. As we have mentioned in previous blogs, when you lose teeth, the body stops sending important nutrients to the areas around them, so these portions of the jaw break down. The breakdown is then linked to an aged appearance. To enjoy good oral health and better quality of life, you need to seek replacement with a complete set of dentures.

Creating a Full Set of Dentures

Our team will start by numbing and then extracting the last few teeth in your smile, which paves the way for your new teeth. We then take detailed digital images and impressions of your bite, which we will use to design and craft a set of custom prosthetics. The prosthetic will contain a complete row of teeth made from ceramic, which can absorb daily bite forces and also be color-matched to blend with your smile. They will be set in a base made from acrylic, which mimics the appearance of gum tissues.

Securing Your Full Smile

We have two different options available. With removable prosthetics, we will support these with suction or adhesives, and then will need to be removed for soaking and cleaning. They tend to last about 5 to 10 years, as replacement is ended once the jaw ridge changes shape. But! Our team could also insert multiple dental implants and then attach the prosthetic to them, which provides a fixed option that doesn’t need to be removed for maintenance, and that can last for decades to come, possibly a lifetime.
