Much like regular dental cleaning, deep cleaning involves removing harmful oral bacteria that could prove harmful to your teeth and gums. The difference, though, is that deep cleaning involves removing plaque and tartar from the roots of your teeth rather than their crowns. Because the roots of your teeth are underneath your gums, deep cleaning is a more complex procedure and may take more than one visit. Once completed, however, deep cleaning significantly reduces your risks of developing gingivitis, or of it becoming more serious if it has already developed.
