For many families, school will start again soon, which means back-to-school shopping and more. But don’t forget about your child’s smile! In today’s blog, Dr. Robert M. Browne talks about how we prepare smiles for a new school year with a routine checkup and cleaning visit!
Dental Exams
Kids should have a checkup now, so that if we discover any concerns like tooth decay, we can offer treatment before they start their first day! With a dental exam, we will take a close look at the teeth and gums, and peer into the interior of the teeth too, with digital x-rays and intraoral cameras. The technology makes the examination a fast and effective process, with high-definition images available instantly chairside for our patients. We also talk to them about their oral hygiene habits, and ways to help protect their teeth and gums in between these routine visits!
Preparing Smiles for School
Our team will look closely at the teeth and if we find a cavity is present, we can help. With a dental filling, we can apply a composite resin restoration that is metal-free and safe for all ages. The material is lifelike in appearance and can be shaded for a natural appearance. Our team can also look for gingivitis in older kids, and watch for indicators of teeth grinding. We also want to make sure baby teeth arrive and fall out on schedule so permanent ones have a clear path to eruption and your kids can avoid the risk of serious misalignment.
Our team can also discuss options like fluoride and dental sealants to help strengthen outer enamel and protect smiles from cavities, limiting their risk for months or even years at a time.
Cleaning Teeth
We also help prepare kids for a new school with a dental cleaning! In the same visit, we will remove all plaque and tartar with an ultrasonic scaling device and a manual tool, a process that only takes a few minutes. The cleaning helps brighten your smile and also limits the risk of cavities and gingivitis. We complete the process by polishing the teeth for a brighter appearance and to help limit how much buildup can accumulate before you see us again.
