Custom Dental Crowns Provide Repair For Your Smile

Does your smile need repair? If you have a chipped or cracked tooth, then we could repair it and save the tooth from worsening pain and loss. In today’s blog, Dr. Robert M. Browne talks about how we repair teeth with a custom and long-lasting dental crown!

The Need for Dental Crowns

When does a smile need to be repaired with a dental crown? We could suggest this if you have a tooth that has been damaged, including chips and cracks. If a cavity has formed and is too severe for a filling, this could help. Likewise, for infected teeth these are an essential part of the root canal procedure. We could use a full restoration to lengthen worn-down teeth, improve bite balance, and even boost chewing function. If you have missing teeth, then our team could use one or two to support a bridge, or one to restore a single tooth dental implant!

Creating Custom (and Lifelike) Restorations

To ensure they fit comfortably and provide a lifelike appearance, we will use specific materials. Often, we use all-porcelain for the front facing teeth, and for the side and rear teeth, which endure greater bite pressures, we could use zirconia and porcelain-fused-to-metal, all of which can be shaded to blend with your smile.

The creation process begins with our team numbing the tooth and then gently removing outer structure to make room to accommodate them. We then take images of the prepped tooth, which we use in a lab setting to design and craft your new crown. When this is ready, you will return for the placement in a follow-up visit!

Placing Your New Restorations

When your custom and lifelike dental crown is ready, our team will check the fit and if necessary, make changes to your restoration to ensure proper fit and balance. We then attach it to the prepared tooth with a powerful bonding agent, the same we use to secure bridges and implant restorations, so your restoration can stay in place for years to come. With daily brushing and flossing, a healthy diet, and routine visits for checkups and cleanings, we can help ensure your new restoration stays in place for years to come, and stay bright and beautiful too!
