If you have crooked and crowded teeth, or if they overlap one another, this could be a recipe for embarrassment and also poorer oral health. But that does not mean braces are your only recourse. Instead, we could provide a cosmetic option! In today’s blog, Dr. Robert M Browne talks about providing orthodontic clear aligners for our patients in Prairie Village, KS.
Misalignment and Poor Oral Health
How does an uneven smile impact your oral health? If you have uneven teeth, this could make thorough brushing and flossing a more difficult process, which means the risk of tooth decay and gum disease elevates, and with it, discomfort and the chance of losing a tooth. You could also have strain on your bite due to uneven teeth, which leaves you vulnerable to issues like TMJ disorder and bruxism (teeth grinding). Poor alignment could also mean discomfort in social situations, which impacts your overall quality of life in negative ways. But we can take on your misalignment with our orthodontic clear aligners!
A Cosmetic Alternative
How does this option provide a cosmetic alternative to traditional braces? Well, with orthodontic clear aligners we don’t need metal brackets or wires at all. In fact, nothing is affixed to your teeth. Instead, we will take detailed digital images of your bite with an intraoral camera, which can capture images from multiple angles quickly and conveniently. We then combine these to make a 3D impression of your bite. We provide these images and impressions to experts who will use them in a lab setting to design and craft your aligners. Your treatment is now possible with a series of clear and cozy aligners that fit snugly over your teeth.
Your Treatment Journey
What will your treatment journey look like? You will wear a set of these aligners in your bite for about 20 to 23 hours a day, over a period for about two weeks. You then repeat the process with the next set in the series and continue the process as your smile is gently and gradually corrected, a process that could take as little as one year! During the treatment, you can remove them before meals or prior to brushing and flossing, which adds more convenience to your treatment experience when compared to braces.
