A Look At Our Comprehensive Dental Checkups

prairie village checkups

Our team provides treatment to help all ages enjoy good oral health and avoid common issues like tooth decay, gum disease, and even tooth loss. To do so, we want to see you and your family every six months. In today’s blog, your Prairie Village, KS, dentist talks about treatment with our comprehensive dental exams!

Who Needs A Dental Exam?

Who benefits from a dental exam? We recommend a visit for everyone over the age of two every six months. When you attend a regular exam every few months, we can monitor your smile and then catch serious issues in their earliest stages, often addressing these concerns before discomfort arises and tooth stability is threatened. For all ages, this protects your oral health and prevents concerns like tooth decay and gum disease. For kids, this can help prevent dental anxiety and help kids better understand the importance of caring for their smiles at home and with regular visits to our office for dental exams!

Looking Closely at Your Smile

We want to look closely at the surfaces of your teeth and gums, which can help identify issues like cavities, gum disease, and even TMJ disorder and bruxism (teeth grinding). To do so, we can use an intraoral camera to take images of your smile’s surface from multiple angles quickly and comfortably. To look at the interior of your tooth, your roots, and structures not visible to the naked eye, we could use digital x-rays. These systems use 90% less radiation when compared to traditional x-rays, and they will be available instantly on chairside monitors, so we can conduct an accurate diagnosis with speed and precision. You spend less time in the chair!

The Dental Cleaning Process

If you have a routine visit every six months, in addition to our comprehensive dental exam, we can also clean the teeth. With a dental cleaning, we can carefully remove all plaque and tartar from your smile with an ultrasonic scaling and a manual pick. The process helps lower the risk of cavities, infections, gingivitis, and gum disease. You also have a lowered risk of bad breath and stained teeth. The procedure only takes a few minutes, and we then follow it by polishing your teeth to keep your smile bright and limit buildup before we see you again!
