Teeth Whitening Helps Your Smile Really Shine

If you have stains on your teeth and want to see them gone, then talk to our team about cosmetic dentistry. With teeth whitening, we can provide in-office and at-home methods for removing discoloration. In today’s blog, your Prairie Village, KS, dentist talks about teeth whitening and how we help our patients obtain smiles that really shine.

The Causes of Teeth Stains

How do these unsightly stains form on our smiles in the first place? This could happen when meals and drinks high in sugar are consumed regularly, as this leaves behind particles for bacteria to consume, creating a sticky layer of plaque that makes stains more visible. Poor brushing and flossing habits, along with infrequent cleanings, could also contribute to plaque buildup. Consuming drinks with dark pigments, such as soda, red wine, coffee, and even tea could discolor your teeth, as could the use of tobacco products. Our team will look closely at your smile to understand the causes of your stains, so we can recommend the most appropriate whitening solution.

A Same-Day Approach

For many, we could opt for our in-office teeth whitening option, in which we brighten your teeth by several shades in as little as one to two hours. The process is perfect if you need results before a first date, job interview, or special event. We will first add a preventive layer to your lips and gums. We then carefully apply a powerful bleaching gel to the teeth, which breaks up and removes the stains from the surfaces of your teeth. We then repeat the process as needed to ensure your smile really shines.

Brightening Teeth By Several Shades

If you have more severe stains, we could offer smiles up to eight shades brighter with our take-home kit. With this option, we will first take impressions of your bite to create a custom set of trays, which we send home with you. We also provide a series of plastic syringes containing a powerful bleaching gel. At home, you add gel to the trays and place the trays over your teeth, wearing them for about an hour a day and repeating the process for a week to ten days, until you see optimal results. You then keep the trays and any leftover gel for touch-ups in the months to come.
