Dental Timeline: 3 Things You’re Getting Wrong

Has someone ever mentioned something to you in a very matter of fact way, causing you to ask, “What makes you think that?” If so, you know that we often convince ourselves of things (assuming they’re factual) only to realize later that perhaps we’ve got the wrong idea. This is a very easy mistake to make with your dental health. When it comes to timeline issues, we’d love to cover some common ground that frequently leads to confusion, so you have the clarity you need!

#1: When Wisdom Teeth Arrive

You might have an idea about when wisdom teeth do or do not show up. It’s important to recognize that their name refers to the fact that they appear last (after all other teeth have developed), generally in your late teens or early 20s. As a result, keeping up with your dental health visits (checkups and cleanings) remains important, so we can keep an eye on third molars and remove them if necessary.

#2: When Tooth Loss Occurs

You might think that you’re going to lose your teeth as you get older. While this is a frequently held belief, it’s not factually accurate. It is possible, of course, to lose your teeth as you age. However, this only happens if you don’t take care of your dental health. If you do care for your smile, tooth loss will not happen.

#3: When To Schedule A Visit

Patients often assume that it’s not time to schedule a visit until something is wrong. This is inaccurate. It’s time to schedule a visit every six months! That way, when something changes but symptoms fail to show up (a very common issue), we can discover concerns for you and treat them before they become serious.
