Dental Bridges: What Are They?

Are you doing your best to become fully informed regarding tooth replacement treatments for your smile? Have you noticed along the way that no matter how intuitive a treatment seems, there’s always more to be learned (and you inevitably end up with some questions you would like to ask us to be sure you’re getting factual information)? If you’ve recently begun researching dental bridges, we encourage you to remain inquisitive and bring us your questions! To help you begin this leg of your journey, we’ll get you started with quick, helpful answers.

What’s A Dental Bridge?

A dental bridge is a fixed prosthetic that will replace your missing tooth or teeth. This means that we can use a bridge to replace the visible part of your missing teeth and that the bridge will be bonded permanently in place for long-term wear. The bonding will include the placement of two dental crowns (one that sits on either end of the bridge) over your natural teeth (that sit on each side of the open space in your grin). Artificial teeth (which we refer to as pontics) fill the space.

Is It Right For Me?

There’s a lot to consider as you decide whether dental bridges are right for you. If you want a fixed device, then you’re headed in the right direction. It’s also important to remember that a bridge will only replace teeth that neighbor one another (or one tooth). If you are looking to replace multiple teeth that are scattered apart from one another, you will need to choose a different option (don’t worry, we offer dentures and implants, too!).
