Do you worry about what might happen if you’re suddenly in need of our care but it’s nowhere near your next appointment? Perhaps something happens (you break a tooth, you bite your lip, you dislodge your tooth, etc.) and you need to see a dentist now. No worries! We provide our patients with the care they need when they need it, whether it’s a regular preventive care visit, restorative treatment, cosmetic service, or an urgent need to be seen. To help you prepare, should the need for emergency dental care arise, we have some suggestions.
Stay Calm
Nothing good ever comes from panicking or over-thinking what’s going on. When you find yourself in need of emergency dental care, we suggest you stop what you are doing and remember the following:
- Take a few deep breaths. Sit down if you need to, so you can relax and get your wits about you!
- Contact our practice. We are happy to schedule an appointment for you if you suffer a dental emergency.
- Ask yourself if you are in need of dental care or if you actually require emergency medical care (it will be the latter if you’re losing blood or if your life is in danger). For medical care, visit your local ER or call 911.
- Call a friend or loved one if you need or prefer that someone drive you to our practice for your visit.
Reassure Yourself
Don’t fall down the rabbit hole of wondering if you really need emergency dental care if that was your first instinct. Remember that we don’t expect you to sit at home suffering when you need care. We would prefer to see you, so we can protect your oral health. For helpful guidance, remember that some common reasons for emergency care include:
- Intolerable discomfort
- A broken tooth
- A dislodged tooth
- Food stuck between teeth
